I always flat iron, and blow dry my hair. What can I use to protect my hair but also keep it soft and smooth? I was thinking about the CHI Silk Infusion but I'm not sure. Any recommendations?

I put on a CHI product, thermal protectant before blow drying. I have heard it is activated by heat and when hair smokes it is just the product. But I think it's a load of crap because my hair smokes even when I don't use the thermal protectant. I am wondering if maybe my CHI blow dryer gets too hot?!?!
